Unlike Disney – whose parks are filled with “less scary” rides that are often more focused on a storytelling aspect – Universal Studios is better at providing truly thrilling roller coasters.

But if you’re only visiting Universal Orlando for one day or you’re visiting at a busy time, you may need to prioritize and choose which roller coasters you HAVE to experience, and which you can skip.

That’s where this Universal Studios Orlando roller coasters list comes in.

Let’s discuss everything from Universal Studios Orlando roller coaster height requirements to the nature of the coasters!

This post is all about the Universal Studios Orlando roller coasters ranked from best to worst to help you create your perfect park plan.

Universal Studios Orlando Roller Coasters Ranked

With so many roller coasters at Universal Studios Orlando, it’s tricky to decide which ones are worth your time. Here’s how they stack up so you don’t waste a single minute of your theme park day.

Universal Studios Orlando Roller Coasters List

Top-Ranked Coasters

These coasters are the absolute must-rides—they combine cutting-edge design, breathtaking theming, and sheer excitement.

1) Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure

Height Requirement: 48 in (122 cm)

Highlights: High speed, roller coaster that goes background, moderate to large drop, Harry Potter theming

Location: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmede – Islands of Adventure

This “story coaster” is a mix of adventure and thrills. The ride features seven launches, a backward segment, and even a drop track. What sets it apart is the attention to detail and storytelling—it’s interactive magic combined with a motorbike rush through the Forbidden Forest. As the name suggests, you can ride on a motorbike (surprisingly, this doesn’t feel much different to sitting on your average seat for a mildly thrilling roller coaster. If you think the seating will be similar to TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom, you may be surprised. It feels different, as you don’t sit at an “unnatural” angle on Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.

2) Jurassic World VelociCoaster

Height Requirement: 51 in (130cm)

Highlights: VERY high-speed roller coaster with inversions, Jurassic World theming

Location: Jurassic Park – Islands of Adventure

Universal Studios Orlando roller coasters

This coaster is a masterpiece and is arguably the most thrilling roller coaster at Universal Studios Orlando. With its twists, launches, and a top speed of 70 mph, it’s hands-down one of the most exciting rides at the park. From iconic theming to its insane speeds, this one is not to be missed!

3) Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts

Height Requirement: 42 in (107 cm)

Highlights: Screen-based ride with roller coaster elements, Harry Potter theming

Location: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley – Universal Studios Florida

This ride blurs the line between coaster and dark ride. It’s visually stunning, with incredible screen projections and special effects. However, if you’re looking for traditional coaster thrills, Gringotts might feel a bit too slow-paced for your liking.

Considering this is a ride that requires the use of 3D glasses, it is still somewhat thrilling though – and can still be classed as a roller coaster.

THIS is part of the queue at Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts (the queue alone is INCREDIBLE at this attraction)

Mid-Tier Coasters

These coasters have their moments, but they don’t reach the same heights as the top-tier rides. They’re worth considering if you have extra time.

4) Revenge of the Mummy

Height Requirement: 48 in (122 cm)

Highlights: Roller coaster with a somewhat dark storyline

Location: New York, Universal Studios Florida

While this indoor coaster doesn’t hit the speeds of its outdoor counterparts, it packs a punch with sharp turns, special effects, and a storyline that keeps you on edge. The only downside of this ride is that maybe it focuses too much on the storyline that the ride runs out of time to be as thrilling as it should be.

5) Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit

Height Requirement: 51 – 79 in (130cm – 200cm)

Highlights: Outdoor coaster with inversions

Location: Production Central, Universal Studios Florida

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit (sometimes colloquially known as the ‘Universal Studios Orlando red roller coaster’), may not be the most popular, but is very recognisable at Universal Studios Florida.

This unique roller coaster allows you to choose from a selection of songs whilst you experience this pretty intense roller coaster.

Beware that the track is pretty rough on this one!

This ride is closing in September 2025.

6) Incredible Hulk Coaster

Height Requirement: 54 in (138cm)

Highlights: Outdoor coaster with loops

Location: Marvel Super Hero Island, Island of Adventure

On this coaster, expect inversions and speeds of up to 67 mph (not the highest of Universal Studios Orlando roller coaster speeds, but still pretty fast!)

I would argue that this ride has the opposite problem of The Revenge of the Mummy: this ride doesn’t have enough theming.

Yes, it’s green, but nothing else tells you that this is a coaster themed to The Hulk.

Lower-Ranked Coasters

Not every ride can be a winner. These coasters either lack the wow factor or might not be worth the wait compared to others in the park.

In this section, I’m just talking about junior coasters, so they are ideal for younger visitors at Universal Studios Orlando.

7 and 8) Flight of the Hippogriff & Trolls Trollercoaster

Height Requirement for Flight of Hippogriff: 36 in (92 cm)

Location of Flight of Hippogriff: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmede – Islands of Adventure

Height Requirement for Trolls Trollercoaster: 36 in (92 cm)

Location of Trolls Trollercoaster: DreamWorks Land, Universal Studios Florida

These are the run of the mill, junior coasters.

Pretty short, relatively boring for most older guests, who are looking for more thrilling attractions.

They are fine, but if you are only looking for intense roller coasters, these ones will probably waste your precious park time.
