With four options to choose from (excluding the Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness), there are a lot of incredible options to choose from.

The Disney Moderate Resorts are often the most overlooked category of on-site hotels, but that certainly doesn’t mean they’re bad options. Instead, some of these Moderate Resorts are more like hidden gems!

The 4 Disney Moderate Resorts we will be focusing on are:

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside
Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter
Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

This is because the 5th Moderate (The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort are being transformed into a Disney Vacation Club property. Assuming everything goes to plan, this will happen in 2024.

So, let’s get into the reasons you should stay at Moderate Resorts at Disney World …

1. They provide a little luxury on a budget

Just to be clear, I’m not claiming that the Moderate Resorts are on par with the most expensive Disney Deluxe Resorts – like the 5-star Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

But, these 3 and 4-star resorts have their fair share of luxury.

For example, look at the lobby at Gran Destino Tower at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort:

2. Most Disney Moderate Resorts have some great modes of transportation

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort has the best transportation, as it is on the Skyliner – taking you to Epcot and Hollywood Studios.

A water taxi to Disney Springs is offered to guests at Port Orleans – Riverside and French Quarter.

The only Moderate Resort with only a bus service is Coronado Springs. However, if you’re staying in a Standard Room, this is usually the cheapest Moderate Resort at Disney World. So, if taking the bus doesn’t bother you, staying at Coronado Springs can be an excellent choice.

3. There are a lot of good on-site amenities at the Moderate Resorts

The most notable of the great amenities is the swimming pools. Caribbean Beach and Port Orleans – Riverside have 6 pools each!

And Coronado Springs has TWO fitness centers (La Vida Health Club Fitness Center and the Fitness Center at Gran Destino). This makes Coronado Springs the only Moderate Resort with fitness centers.

4. The Moderate Resorts have extremely immersive theming

If you go to Port Orleans – Riverside, you feel like you’re in Louisiana.

If you go to Caribbean Beach, you feel like you’re in the Caribbean (though you could argue it’s slightly less believable since Disney’s Riviera Resort was built).

But overall, the Moderate Resorts really do transport you to another part of the world, and they really don’t resemble Orlando.

5. Moderate Resorts are some of the most tranquil resorts

This is almost an ironic reality, because they’re some of the largest Disney World resorts.

You may think the larger the resort, the higher quantity of rooms, the more guests, and therefore more chaos.

Sure, there are a lot of rooms and guests, but because the Moderate Resorts are so colossal, there is more space for guests to spread out and find peace.

The landscapes are exquisite and there is beauty to be found at every Disney World Moderate Resort.

6. Moderate Resorts are more sophisticated than Disney Value Resorts (& they’re comparably priced)

Moderate Resorts have some similarities to Value Resorts. The most glaring one is the external hallways, but overall, they really are a big step above in quality.

The rooms feel more “homey” and less sterile than the rooms at the All-Star Resorts and Pop Century, in particular.

And it’s not entirely uncommon to find that Moderate Resorts are around the same price as Values.

In fact, I’ve even seen Little Mermaid Rooms at Art of Animation that are more expensive than Standard Rooms at Coronado Springs for the same period!

7. The rooms are a very decent size

Speaking of accommodation, the rooms at Moderate Resorts are well-sized.

On average, rooms at Disney Moderate Resorts are 314 square feet – quite significantly bigger than most rooms at the Value Resorts, which are 260 square feet.

And you can definitely tell a significant difference in the size of Value and Moderate resort rooms.

If you’re travelling with more than one other person, the Value rooms start to feel quite small.

On the other hand, Moderate Resorts don’t have the same feel when you have a few guests in one room.
