Welcome to the epitome of Disney luxury, the Grand Floridian Villas – a realm of opulence nestled in the heart of the Walt Disney World Resort.
As you consider your next magical getaway, it’s essential to weigh the pros and cons of this enchanting destination.
Are the lavish accommodations and world-class service worth the investment, or do the drawbacks overshadow the elegance?
After my recent stay at Disney’s Grand Floridian Villas, I had a chance to find a handful of pros and cons of this Disney Vacation Club property.
So, let’s explore the advantages and disadvantages of this iconic Disney haven so you can make an informed choice for your next unforgettable DVC escape.
This post is all about unveiling the pros and cons of Disney’s Grand Floridian Villas.
Grand Floridian Villas
Pros of Grand Floridian Villas
1) Unmatched Elegance
The Grand Floridian Villas offer a luxurious and elegant stay that is unmatched in the Disney Vacation Club portfolio.
I stayed in a Two Bedroom – Lake View villa in the main DVC building (not Big Pine Key), and it made me feel somewhere in between a princess in a fairytale and Queen Blair Waldorf 😂
After spending a night here, I moved to a Two Bedroom Villa at Disney’s Beach Club Villas – and was not nearly as impressed (as mentioned in my review here) – despite Beach Club arguably more popular.
There isn’t a bad DVC resort, but there isn’t another property nearly as “fancy” as Disney’s Grand Floridian Villas.
2) Proximity to Magic Kingdom
If you’re a fan of the Magic Kingdom, the Grand Floridian Villas provide one of the closest accommodations to the park.
You can even take a relaxed boat ride to the Magic Kingdom, offering both convenience and a bit of added magic to your trip.
Annoyingly, it goes from the Grand Floridian to the Polynesian and then to Magic Kingdom – so you have to go out of your way before getting to the park.
It is less time-efficient than getting the Monorail, but it is calm and pretty – especially at night.

3) World-Class Dining
The resort is home to some of Disney’s finest dining options, including Victoria & Albert’s, an award-winning restaurant.
Please be aware that dining here is not cheap. The prix-fixe menu STARTS AT $295.00. Ouch!

Can you see why I opted for the Quick-Service at Gasparilla Island Grill?! 😂
From bars to restaurants, you can find everything you need at the Grand Floridian.
4) Breathtaking Views
Many rooms offer sweeping views of the Seven Seas Lagoon, and some even have a clear line of sight to the Magic Kingdom fireworks.
During my stay, we had a Lake View, which was breathtaking – especially during the sunrise.
We heard the music for the fireworks (but didn’t have a park view). However, we could see the Electrical Water Pageant (in the distance).
Waking up or winding down with such captivating scenery truly is an experience in itself.
5) Access to Top-Notch Amenities
As a Disney Vacation Club member staying at the Grand Floridian Villas, you have access to all the amenities of the Grand Floridian Resort, including its two splendid pools (the Beach Pool – and one of my favourite leisure pools at Disney World – the Courtyard Pool).
They also have a plethora of stores, from Mouse Mercantile to Basin – and more!
6) Proximity to the Monorail
The resort is also a short monorail ride away from Magic Kingdom and Epcot, making it convenient to explore multiple parks with ease.
7) Disney Character Encounters
1900 Park Fare has previously provided guests with character dining experiences, but it is temporarily unavailable.
It also isn’t uncommon to find characters in the main lobby. During my stay, we saw Daisy Duck and Chip ‘n’ Dale!
8) The Perfect Romantic Getaway
The Grand Floridian Villas are the ideal destination for couples looking for a romantic and refined Disney experience.
Whether it’s a honeymoon, anniversary, or special trip, the atmosphere and dining options cater to those seeking a touch of Disney luxury for a romantic trip.
After all, you can even have a fairytale wedding at their Wedding Pavillion (though it’s less appealing now that it’s surrounded by the new – and arguably “ugly” – Polynesian DVC Tower – which is still being constructed).

9) Cheaper than direct with Disney in non-DVC accommodation
Disney’s Grand Floridian is known for being the most expensive Disney World Resort. After all, it’s the only 5-star Disney World resort – that is operated and owned by Disney.
The room rates on the hotel side are INSANELY HIGH.
If you can rent or use your own DVC points, you will be getting a much better deal.
For example, a Resort View room for one night (December 15th-16th) would cost $1,312!
(Side note: this is the regular room rate – assuming you’re not getting a discount, though discounts may be available – especially if you’re an Annual Passholder, for example).
If you rented points, a Studio (Standard View) for the same night (December 15th-16th) would cost $441 (if you booked with David’s Vacation Club Rentals).
10) Many different accommodation options
From Studios to Villas, there is something for every party size at Disney’s Grand Floridian Villas.
Here are all the Studio/Villa Types offered here:
1) Resort Studio (sleeps up to 5 guests) – Standard View, Lake View, Theme Park View
2) Deluxe Studio (sleeps up to 5 guests) – Standard View, Lake View
3) One-Bedroom Villa (sleeps up to 5 guests) – Standard View, Lake View
4) Two-Bedroom Villa (sleeps up to 9 guests) – Standard View, Lake View
5) Three-Bedroom Villa (sleeps up to 12 guests) – Lake View
Cons of Grand Floridian Villas
1) Premium Price Tag
The Grand Floridian Villas have a premium price point. Staying here requires a significant financial commitment, which may not be feasible for budget-conscious travellers.
Even though staying in the Villas here is MUCH cheaper than the Hotel side, it is still costly for a DVC property.
2) Limited Availability
Due to its popularity, the Grand Floridian Villas can be in high demand, particularly during the holidays and peak seasons. This limited availability might make it challenging to secure reservations, leaving you with fewer booking options.
During my September 2023 stay, I was informed by cast members that they’re usually running at full capacity. Is that something they say to manage your expectations of getting in your studio/villa before 4 p.m.? Perhaps, but it is also a very popular place to stay.
3) Formal Atmosphere
While the resort’s elegance is a pro for many, it can be a con for some.
If you prefer a more relaxed or casual environment, the Grand Floridian’s formal atmosphere might not be the right fit for your vacation style.
4) Potential for Large Crowds
As one of Disney’s flagship resorts, the Grand Floridian can sometimes attract larger crowds, especially in common areas like the lobby (and during the Christmas period – thanks to the Gingerbread House).

If you’re seeking a quieter and more intimate vacation experience, you might find these crowds less appealing. However, if you stay at the Villas, they feel much more peaceful.
Ta Ta For Now
In conclusion, Disney’s Grand Floridian Villas offer a luxurious and elegant vacation experience that’s second to none. And a price that is far from low. 😂
Ultimately, your Disney Resort decision comes down to your personal preferences, budget, and what you value most in a Disney vacation. If you’re seeking a lavish and opulent experience, the Grand Floridian Villas may be your dream destination. However, if you prefer a more casual or budget-friendly stay, other Disney Vacation Club resorts might be a better match.
No matter your choice, one thing is sure: a Disney vacation is always a magical adventure, and Disney’s Grand Floridian Villas are poised to deliver a grand experience you won’t forget.
