List of Shows at Magic Kingdom

1. Country Bear Jamboree

Location: Frontierland

what are the 23 rides in magic kingdom

This show is an Opening Day Disney World attraction, and it feels very 70’s. That’s not a bad thing; I think it just increases the humour of the show to a modern audience.

Is it as technologically advanced as shows like Monsters Inc Laugh Floor? No, but it wouldn’t have the same level of charm if it was.

The older feeling of the show makes it endearing, and it is a must-see – especially for Disney history nerds (like me), who want to see some singing bears. Don’t we all?

2. The Hall of Presidents

Location: Liberty Square

Another masterpiece is the Hall of Presidents, which showcases animatronics of every US president in history, and showcases important moments in political history.

As I’m from England, I find this show educational and pretty astonishing. After all, how often do you get to see 45, pretty realistic animatronic presidents on stage together?!

There technically have been 46 presidents, but there are only 45 figures, as Grover Cleveland was the 22nd and the 24th president of the United States (according to Disney’s site). I promise I can count 😂

3. Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor

Location: Tomorrowland

magic kingdom hours

DO NOT skip this.

I know, the long line can be offputting.

But if laughing at the expense of others (or yourself – if you’re unlucky) is your thing, you’ll love this show!

Disclaimer: if potential audience participation isn’t your thing, this might not be your favourite show, but it is a lot of fun!

4. Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress

Location: Tomorrowland

The Carousel of Progress allows you to follow an American family adapting to futuristic innovations.

It originally debuted during Walt’s life at the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair, and opened at Magic Kingdom in 1975. It has been updated since, but it’s still full of charm and nostalgia.

5. Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room

Location: Adventureland

best rides at magic kingdom

Do you want to see (and hear) singing, animatronic birds? I know, a lifelong dream for most of us 😂

If so, this show is perfect for you!

This show first opened at Disneyland (in California) in 1963, and was also an opening day attraction at Walt Disney World.

Even if this doesn’t sound like your thing, it’s pretty unique and at least they’re not real birds and won’t steal your food or have any accidents.

6. Mickey’s PhilharMagic

Location: Fantasyland

This is a 3D show with animated classic characters (namely, Donald Duck) with some great music.

Is it revolutionary? No, not really. But, is it a nice way to spend 12 minutes away from the humidity? Absolutely.

It is a good show. I wouldn’t say it’s the best of the shows in Magic Kingdom, but it definitely won’t leave you disappointed.

7. Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire

Location: Main Street, U.S.A.

Do you like standing in the crazy Florida humidity – with no cover, air conditioning or fans? Then, boy, I have a show for you!

Mickey and friends (not just the ducks, mice and dogs) have gathered in broad daylight outside the castle for a show.

Now sure, it’s sweet and charming and all, but it’s OUTSIDE.

Sure, this isn’t really an issue in the cooler months, but in Summer – good luck! It might be less enjoyable (not because the show itself is bad. Just the less-than-desirable audience experience).

8. Happily Ever After

Location: Main Street, U.S.A.

Happily Ever After – one of Disney World’s most popular fireworks shows – returned on April 4th, 2023.

Now, I’m not denying that this is an incredible show. It is. But I feel like this show has a similar issue to Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire, in the sense that it is outside.

Sure, Happily Ever After is an evening show. But, it’s crowded and kind of claustrophobic and you probably have to stand.

But, in August 2023, I will be going to my first Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Party: Seats & Sweets.

Give me cake, a better view and a seat, and I’m sure this will be the best show I’ve ever seen.

9. Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade

Multiple Locations at Magic Kingdom

magic kingdom attractions

A delightful 12-minute parade that you should watch at least once on your next trip to Magic Kingdom. You get to see a lot of characters in a short period of time, which is always fun!

List of Rides at Magic Kingdom – Thrill Rides

Magic Kingdom may not be known for its thrill rides (like Hollywood Studios), but it is home to some iconic roller coasters!

1. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Height Restriction: 40in (102cm) +

Highlights: Moderate speed, small drops

Location: Frontierland

This is a very family-friendly roller coaster. It’s not too fast or overly scary.

This is great, if you’re looking for a pretty tame roller coaster (just a step above a junior coaster).

However, if you’re looking for a really thrilling roller coaster, this isn’t it.

If you’ve been on Big Thunder Mountain at Disneyland Paris, you might be a little disappointed. Disney World’s version is much slower. Like, why does the train slow down going around a corner? The last time I checked, it was not a real train!

The saving grace of Big Thunder Mountain is riding it at night – especially if you time it right, and you can watch the fireworks at the same time.

2. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

Height Restriction: 38in (97cm) +

Highlights: Quite fast, small drops, storytelling

Location: Fantasyland

Arguably the best part of the ‘New Fantasyland Expansion’ (no, it’s no longer “new”, but I think we’ll always think of it this way).

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is the only roller coaster in Fantasyland. However, it doesn’t stray too far from the infamous Fantasyland storytelling.

Although this is a roller coaster (and a short one at that), this thrill ride still tells a story through the iconic Snow White characters – primarily the seven dwarfs.

I know a lot of people miss Snow White’s Scary Adventures, but this was a great addition to Fantasyland – and Magic Kingdom as a whole.

3. Space Mountain

Height Restriction: 44in (112cm) +

Highlights: Roller coaster in the dark, moderate to large drops, neck pain (and perhaps pain in general)

Location: Tomorrowland

No, I’m not kidding. The more I ride Space Mountain, the more I get neck pain (well, ‘ache’. It really isn’t horrendous). But, this is the only roller coaster in Magic Kingdom where I (and seemingly a lot of people) have this issue.

That being said, I still enjoy this roller coaster. It’s one of the most iconic roller coasters in Walt Disney World, and it has existed since the 70’s (which may explain the less-than-smooth ride).

If you don’t mind the risk, you will probably enjoy this ride a lot (depending on how much it affects you). After all, more often than not, I don’t have an issue on this ride – but I have on more recent occasions.

4. TRON Lightcycle / Run

Height Restriction: 48in (122cm) +

Highlights: Fast, thrilling, dark with drops

Location: Tomorrowland

Based on the film, TRON: Legacy, and the roller coaster at Shanghai Disneyland, Tron opened at Disney World on April 4th, 2023.

I haven’t been on Tron yet (I will go on Tron during my August 2023 Disney trip, and will update this post with my thoughts). But I’ve heard it’s not a long roller coaster.

After construction literally taking YEARS, I’m really hoping this one lives up to expectations.

5. The Barnstormer

Height Restriction: 35in (89cm) +

Highlights: Minimal speed, small drops

Location: Fantasyland

Is The Barnstormer a thrilling roller coaster? No, it’s a junior coaster.

The average older kid or adult probably won’t be impressed by The Barnstormer, but its demographic really is younger kids – thanks to the pretty low height restriction.

This is perfect for your child’s “first roller coaster” to test the waters before Big Thunder Mountain or Tron.

List of Rides at Magic Kingdom – Slow Rides

This is what Magic Kingdom is known for. The slower rides – which focus more on storytelling than thrills.

1. Astro Orbiter

Height Restriction: Any height

Highlights: Spinning, high, slower ride

Location: Tomorrowland

If you want to fly in a spinning rocket ship, head on down to Tomorrowland!

It might be worth it purely for the unique and beautiful views of Magic Kingdom.

2. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

Height Restriction: Any height

Highlights: Slow rides, some spinning (optional & controlled by you to help you find other targets)

Location: Tomorrowland

Are you a Toy Story fan, who loves a little healthy competition?

You can help Buzz to defeat the evil Zurg (and try and beat the person sitting next to you – by having a more accurate and precise aim with your infrared laser cannon).

I’m not the biggest fan of this ride (which is totally not because I’ve never won … 😂). Seriously though, it is impressive and sweet.

It’s not as good as Midway Mania (which is totally not because I get higher scores on Midway Mania …).

3. Dumbo the Flying Elephant

Height Restriction: All heights

Highlights: Whimsical slow, spinning ride

Location: Fantasyland

This is another classic slow, spinning ride (like Astro Orbiter), but Dumbo themed! It opened originally in Disneyland (California) in 1955, and was an opening day attraction at Disney World.

It’s not the most technologically advanced ride at Disney World, but it’s an iconic classic.

4. Haunted Mansion

Height Restriction: Any height

Highlights: Slow, dark, slightly spooky

Location: Liberty Square

This is a classic slow dark ride that is less scary than the average Haunted Mansion at a non-Disney theme park.

It opened in 1969 at Disneyland (California) and was an opening day attraction at Disney World.

If you’re willing to risk becoming the 1000th happy haunt, don’t miss this great attraction!

5. “it’s a small world”

Height Restriction: Any height

Highlights: Boat ride highlighting cultures from around the world, with an arguably annoying song you will never forget

Location: Fantasyland

“it’s a small world” is one of the most controversial on this Magic Kingdom List of Attractions. You either love the repetitive song and the cuteness of the attraction. Or, you hate the repetitive song and find the animatronics creepy.

This attraction was originally created for the 1964-5 New York World’s Fair. It was then shipped to Disneyland (California in 1966) and was an Opening Day Walt Disney World attraction.

This often has pretty low wait times, and I think it’s a lot of fun!

6. Jungle Cruise

Height Restriction: Any height

Highlights: Slow boat ride with animatronic animals

Location: Adventureland

Jungle Cruise was an opening day attraction at Disneyland (California) and Walt Disney World, where you explore the river and find animatronic animals.

It’s iconic and beloved by Disney history fans. If you’re expecting a revolutionary modern ride, this won’t be it. But if you don’t mind some corny Dad jokes and old animatronic animals, this may be the ride for you!

7. Liberty Square Riverboat

Height Restriction: Any height

Highlights: A slow boat ride

Location: Liberty Square

Yes, there are a lot of boats at Magic Kingdom!

This is a classic 17-minute boat ride, where you can see some unique views of Magic Kingdom.

8. Mad Tea Party

Height Restriction: Any height

Highlights: Spinning teacups

Location: Fantasyland

I have to spill the tea and tell you all about this ride!

It is a classic teacup spinning ride, where you can control how much you spin – which is great if dizziness is an issue for you.

Mad Tea Party was an Opening Day attraction at both Disneyland (California) and Walt Disney World.

Just remember not to eat a Cat’s Tail from the Chesire Café before riding!

9. The Magic Carpets of Aladdin

Height Restriction: Any height

Highlights: Spinning, slow ride

Location: Adventureland

This is similar to Astro Orbiter and Dumbo the Flying Elephant, but instead, you’re flying on Aladdin’s Magic Carpets!

10. Main Street Vehicles

Height Restriction: Any height

Highlights: Slow vehicle ride

Location: Main Street, U.S.A.

Enjoy a ride in a turn-of-the-century vehicle down Main Street!

11. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

Height Restriction: Any height

Highlights: Slow, storytelling ride

Location: Fantasyland

Even if you’re not the biggest Winnie the Pooh fan, I think you can appreciate this ride.

It’s charming and quaint. It probably won’t be your favourite ride, but I think it’s worth riding it once, if you get a chance on your next Disney World trip.

12. Peter Pan’s Flight

Height Restriction: Any height

Highlights: Slow ride with tiny drops & adorable storytelling

Location: Fantasyland

Peter Pan’s Flight is one of the most iconic attractions on this Magic Kingdom list of attractions. After all, it was an opening day attraction at Disneyland (California) and Disney World.

This ride recounts the story of Peter Pan in an adorable and magical way.

I prefer Disneyland Paris’ version, but I still have to ride this on every Disney World trip.

13. Pirates of the Caribbean

Height Restriction: Any height

Highlights: Slow, dark boat ride with pirates & small drops

Location: Adventureland

This ride is incredible for many reasons. The pirate theming, the music – even the scent of this ride is incredible!

It opened at Magic Kingdom in 1973, and has been a fan-favourite for nearly five decades!

Once again, I don’t think this is as good as Disneyland Paris, but I ride it almost every time I go to Magic Kingdom.

14. Tomorrowland Speedway

Height Restriction: 32in (81cm) +

Highlights: “Driving”! 🚗

Location: Tomorrowland

Do you want to drive a fake car that is harder to drive than a real car? If so, Tomorrowland Speedway is the ride for you!

Despite the name, this isn’t a very innovative ride (though perhaps it was originally, as it was an Opening Day attraction in California and Orlando).

This used to be one of my favourite rides before I was old enough to drive, but it’s less exciting to me now.

That being said, I highly recommend riding (or driving) at night, as it’s a much prettier and more enjoyable experience.

15. Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover

Height Restriction: Any height

Highlights: Slow, behind-the-scenes ride

Location: Tomorrowland

This is a 10-minute Disney World attraction, where you get to go behind-the-scenes of attractions, such as Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and the Star Traders retail store.

It is an informative, relaxed ride – providing you with a nice break from some of the chaos.

16. Under the Sea – Journey of The Little Mermaid

Height Restriction: Any height

Highlights: Slow ride

Location: Fantasyland

This is another great slow, storytelling ride at Magic Kingdom, where you get to sit in a seashell and watch the story of The Little Mermaid.

I went on this ride before I watched The Little Mermaid, and I still enjoyed it.

Other than the Ariel animatronic being a little creepy, it’s a great ride, and is often a walk-on attraction, with little to no queue.

17. Walt Disney World Railroad

Height Restriction: Any height

Highlights: Relaxed train ride

Location: Stations at Main Street USA, Fantasyland and Frontierland

This is a charming 20-minute steam-powered train ride around the Magic Kingdom.

This was originally a Disneyland and Disney World Opening Day attraction – thanks to Walt’s interest in trains.

Coming Soon

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Coming in late 2024 (and replacing Splash Mountain) is Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which will be the latest addition to Frontierland.

List of Walk-through Attractions at Magic Kingdom

1. Swiss Family Treehouse

Height Restriction: Any height (guests must be able to climb 116 stairs in total)

Highlights: Treehouse!

Location: Adventureland

Here, you can explore the treehouse that is based on the Disney movie, Swiss Family Robinson.

2. Tom Sawyer Island

Height Restriction: Any height

Highlights: Raft ride to the island

Location: Frontierland

This attraction takes you on a raft ride to an island inspired by the stories told by Mark Twain.
