Moderate Resorts at Disney World can be great: they’re not wildly expensive, but they offer a good standard of accommodation and amenities.
But before you book a stay at the first Moderate Resort you come across on the Disney website, you may want to take a second and research!
A few flattering photos of the Moderate Resorts at Disney World probably won’t be enough to tell you if it’s a wonderful or awful hotel for you.
This post is all about revealing every reason why you should NOT stay at each of the Moderate Resorts at Disney World.
Revealing Why You Shouldn’t Stay At These Moderate Resorts at Disney World
@caffeinebythecastle I stay at Disney World Moderate Resorts A LOT, because they’re great quality at a decent-ish price. But this has also given me an opportunity to find some of the flaws of the Moderate Resorts. What do you think are the biggest flaws of Disney’s Moderate Resorts?! 💕 The full post is on caffeinebythecastle.com 💕 #disneyworldresort #disneyworldresorts
There are currently 5 Disney World Moderate Resorts, including:
- Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
- Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside
- Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter
- Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
- Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort (specifically The Cabins)
Why You Should NOT Stay at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
- Disney’s Caribbean Beach is a HUGE resort, so you’ll probably have to walk A LOT. It’s so colossal, there’s even an internal bus system!
- You have to get the bus to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Disney Springs, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach.
- For some strange reason, there are no elevators in the room buildings. So, if you want a first-floor room, you may want to request this ahead of time.
- The rooms are feeling dated. They look like they haven’t been renovated – or even slightly updated – since the 1990s, and they certainly do not look worthy of the Moderate Resort pricetag.
- There are no longer Pirate Rooms, so you’ll never sleep in a pirate ship at Caribbean Beach again. That being said, the Little Mermaid Rooms (which have replaced the Pirate Rooms) are bright and much more modern.
- Caribbean Beach is arguably the least “luxurious” of the Moderate Resorts, making it the worst of the Moderate Resorts at Disney World for adults.

Why You Should NOT Stay at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside
- You have to catch a bus to every park (though they do offer a water taxi to Disney Springs).
- Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside is another large Moderate Resort, with an internal bus service.
- The dining – both quick service and table service – is subpar. Many would consider it to be worse than its sister resort, French Quarter (yes, I am basing that almost entirely on Mickey Beignets).
Why You Should NOT Stay at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter
- Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter only has one pool, Doubloon Lagoon. Therefore, they have no quiet pools. In January-April 2024, their one and only pool is closed for refurbishment. So if you’re staying at French Quarter, you will have to walk on over to Riverside to use their feature pool, Ol’ Man Island.
- If you enjoy staying in a larger resort, French Quarter may not be for you – as it is the smallest resort.
- As there are less rooms at French Quarter, it is easier for them to reach capacity. This means that the discounts on this Moderate Resort can be quite lackluster – in comparison to the other Moderate Resorts.
- Like Port Orleans – Riverside, you have to take the bus everywhere – except for Disney Springs, where you can take a water taxi.
- There are no table-service dining locations at Port Orleans – French Quarter.
Why You Should NOT Stay at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
- If you stay at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, you have to take the bus EVERYWHERE. It does not have access to the Skyliner or a water taxi, like the Moderate Resorts at Disney World.
- It is in the Animal Kingdom resort area, which is the least desirable location for most guests.
- Coronado Springs has one of the worst and most expensive quick-service locations, El Mercado de Coronado
- If you want to stay in the Tower or in a suite, the prices aren’t very Moderate. In fact, they almost on par with Deluxe Resort
- Disney’s Coronado Springs has a convention center and hardly any Disney theming, so it might not be the best of the Moderate Resorts at Disney World for families with younger children.

Why You Should NOT Stay at The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort
The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness are being transformed into a Disney Vacation Club property. They are scheduled to open in 2024.
Therefore, you might not even get a chance to stay here before it becomes a DVC property. This is unfortunate, as many considered it to be one of the best Moderate Resorts at Disney World, as you got an entire cabin for up to 6 guests – instead of a hotel room (for usually 4-5 guests).
You may not get a chance to stay here in its current state, but when it re-opens as a DVC resort, you will be able to book a stay, if you’re a DVC member, or if you rent DVC points.
It is likely that you’ll be able to book the new Cabins at Fort Wilderness directly through Disney. However, this may be significantly more expensive – after becoming a Disney Vacation Club property.
Ta Ta For Now
Even though this post has covered all the cons of each Moderate Resort, they are still amazing resorts, that I will happily continue to stay at!
